Budget Wedding Dresses – Why It’s No Longer Shameful to Shop At David’s Bridal

In my search for a budget wedding dress, David’s Bridal wasn’t at the top of my list. Years before I got engaged, I can recall various friends and co-workers scrunching up their faces in disgust at the very mention of David’s Bridal. It seemed to be known as the last place anyone wanted to go to for their wedding dress. A store with low quality, out of style dresses. Of course I’d heard of brides who ended up buying their dress from DB but they rarely admitted it and when they did, it was in hushed tones. I also remembered those awful commercials they used to have with the awful dresses with the puffy shoulder pads.
Fast forward to a little over 1 year ago. Before I actually got the ring I was searching for dresses online. I wasn’t crazy. I knew the ring was coming. I searched various websites for styles I loved that were within my budget. I was hoping to spend less than $1000. I searched and searched and still wasn’t seeing anything. I wanted something dramatic, yet simple, girly yet not too frilly.
The truth is when I was little, I’d decided I wanted a Vera Wang wedding gown. And when I grew up, in addition to Vera, I fell in love with Monique Lhuillier. So you can imagine my disappointment when I realized that even pre-owned, getting a Vera Wang or Monique Lhuillier in good condition that I wanted would cost me at least $3000.
And then one day, I put in a search for Vera, and Davids Bridal popped up in the results. I clutched my pearls and took a few moments to decide if I would actually click on it. After quickly checking to ensure none of my co-workers were looking at my screen, I clicked on it. And the rest is history.
DB had recently released a line of dresses called White by Vera Wang. I saw VW351011 and fell in love. After some research I found that the line was very popular and DB actually had beautiful modern affordable wedding dresses for less than $1500. I also loved the reviews with real bride pics for each dress which no other comprehensive wedding dress site had. After I went to DB, tried on my dream dress and was sure it was the one for me, I visited to Kleinfelds, Pronovias, RK Bridal and other bridal salons. But none of the other dresses made me swoon the way VW351011 did.
Melissa Sweet has released a gorgeous line for DB and Zac Posen has one coming soon as well. And to be honest, with the state of the economy it’s wonderful and smart for high-end designers to create more affordable versions of their designs. It’s great that a budget wedding dress can also be a designer wedding dress.
So it looks like David’s Bridal is finally acceptable if not trendy. And if Vera gave DB her seal of approval, then I can too.
Have you or anyone you know bought their dress from David’s Bridal? What was the experience like? Tell us in the comments below. We’d love to hear about it!
P.S. I was in no way compensated by David’s Bridal for this article. I just love my dress and wanted to share.
